Cheteshwar Pujara inches closer to equal this record set by former Australian captain Mark Taylor 27 years ago

Pujara got run out twice in a Test Match

To be run out can be considered as the most irresponsible way of getting out. It is worse if you are a backbone of the batting line-up. And it is worst if you get run out in both the innings when your team is on the verge of losing the Test series.

But unfortunately, that happened with Pujara in the second Test match of Freedom Series against South Africa at Centurion. In the first innings, he got run out on the first ball while trying to steal a single. In the second innings, Ab de Villiers’s superb throw from the third man ended his innings leaving India on the verge of losing the Test series.

Thus he became the first Indian to be run out twice in a Test match. Though it is the first time for an Indian, this has happened quite a few times in international cricket. The record is held by forĀ former Australian captain Mark Taylor. He has got run out twice in a Test match on two occasions. The first was against West Indies in 1989 at Adelaide. His scores were 3 and 36. Later in 1991, he created this record against England again at Adelaide. He scored 5 and 4 runs in the first and second innings respectively.

In 1999, another Australian batsman, Ian Healy equaled Taylor’s record. But no one has been able to break it till now. Let’s hope Pujara does not break it that it will not be beneficial for him as well as Team India.
